Star Wars Wednesday - Clone Wars and Podcasts

Two topics of interest this week that don't exactly fit together. The first is the 100th Episode of The Clone Wars, the second is the conversion of the Order 66 podcast from Saga Edition to Edge of the Empire. Read on for comments on both...with a spoiler alert on the 100th Episode musings. After the break, the post will proceed with the podcast info, then a large break for those who don't want to accidentally read a spoiler or two on the Clone Wars.

Star Wars Wednesday - A Sunny Day in the Blog

It's 2013! Time to get this year's first Star Wars Wednesday off to a great start...three days late. Actually, technically four days, given this will go up after midnight Friday. As it happens, I'm actually glad I was...delayed a bit. Tuesday was spent recovering from New Year's Eve. Wednesday I got distracted assembling new furniture and rearranging the living room, and slowed further while relocating our over complicated, over wired, TV/surround sound/stereo setup. Thursday turned out to be a bit more on track - I caught up on the Clone Wars, while assembling another furniture piece (flatpacks are fun! Right?). With the 100th episode broadcasting this Saturday (OK - LATER THIS MORNING), I wanted to be back on track.

Star Wars Wednesday - Star Wars Celebration VI

Star Wars Celebration VI marked my second journey down to Orlando for the great gathering of Star Wars fans. I had a fantastic time at Celebration V, and eventually worked out a way to go again this year. Though they were held once every 3 years, I hear they're moving it to every two years, as it was this time around. Hopefully, it won't always be the week after GenCon. That said, it will probably be the week OF GenCon at some point.

Anyway, having nearly not fully rested up from GenCon the week before, not to mention the day job in between, I hopped an early Thursday flight, to arrive just before noon.

Star Wars Wednesday - Clone Wars and Sidecars

So, being tired from a lot of stuff happening lately, I took some time tonight to catch up on the Clone Wars episodes piling up on the DVR. Watching several at a time, especially those that are linked story arcs, actually makes it easier to follow along. This is especially true for story arcs resurface weeks after they left off.

So, you know, spoiler alert for those who haven't seen up to the most recent episodes (or some of the less recent episodes, like I said, they were stacked up and some were missed the first time they were broadcast).

Star Wars Wednesday - Clone Wars Season 4 Water War

Busy weeks seem to be the order of the month. Or so. Anyway, I managed to squeeze in a viewing of the first of the new Clone Wars episodes for Season 4 this evening. Since I don't currently have any form of cable or satellite, I continue to watch via starwars.com. On the plus side, I can watch while on the treadmill. On the minus side, I didn't actually do that tonight. Maybe later this week when I get to the other two available episodes. I'll go ahead and throw a few comments out there on the first episode. Minor spoilers ahead.

Star Wars Wed - Trandoshan Hunting Pod

I hope everyone enjoyed last week's April Fools day posts. The "obviously omitted" rules from Wednesday were a lot of fun to do, and those who checked back on April 1st itself got some RPG and minis stats for Simon the Killer Ewok. A couple of notes: the rules were far more popular than Simon, and I actually did send a previous version of those midi-chlorian rules to Rodney Thompson (Wizards Saga line developer) back in 2008 for April 1st. Last week's version was much improved, and a few people noted what I thought of as a joke within the joke - you could eventually use them in play, after some more development and tweaking.

I don't report a lot of Star Wars non-gaming news, but for those who missed it, the official forums at starwars.com are shutting down at the end of the month. They'll be read only until June or so, but then they will be removed. No word on the blogs, and I'll keep posting there while I can. I've suspected for a long time the blogs would go away with the end of the Hyperspace online fan club, given the lack of upgrades. Didn't expect the forums to also go away. There was an announcement last year that another company was coming in to help run the Lucas sites, so I gather this is all part of that process.

On to this week. Since it's the end of the current Clone Wars season, I wanted to follow up on the final episodes, without major spoilers.

Star Wars Wendesday - Jedi Jumpbike

This past week saw the conclusion of the Clone Wars' "Mortis" trilogy, which I commented on in last week's Adventuring in the Tree post. The final episode was very good, and Knights of the Old Republic fans should definitely check out Filoni's comments on characters originally planned to appear in the episode...and why they ultimately did not. This week I'll do a 180 from the philosophical gaming environment and talk about a new take on some existing tech that caught my attention in the episode - a collapsible speeder bike.

Star Wars Wednesday - Adventuring in the Tree

No, this week's title has nothing to do with Wookiees or Ewoks, unless you want it to. It ties to something Clone Wars Supervising Director Dave Filoni said in the commentary of the Clone Wars episode, Altar of Mortis. For those who haven't seen it, and no spoilers here, the Mortis trilogy delves in to the supernatural side of the Force way more than usual. It's something we've really only seen in the extended universe, and reminds me more of the Knights of the Old Republic era or some of the scenes in the more recent Fate of the Jedi novel series. Anyway, Filoni said to his writer to treat the episodes like they are all within the tree* from Empire Strikes Back, and that they're full of metaphor and, I presume, illusion.
